Microsoft just offered 60,000 people a paid way out. Here are the skills buyers posted this morning
Microsoft offered about 60,000 people a paid way out. Today's Job Index counted 41 new roles led by Cybersecurity, OKRs, Python, LLM and Ruby, skills you can show rather than titles you can claim.
On Monday Microsoft announced a Voluntary Exit Offer. About 60,000 employees, roughly 27% of its workforce, are eligible across the US, Canada, the UK and India. They decide in early December, and anyone who takes it leaves on December 31.
That turns a quiet question into one with a deadline: if someone paid you to go, would you know what you'd sell next?
What buyers posted this morning#
The 2026-10-27 Job Index crawl added 41 new roles, and the window holds 195 in total. After broad communication-style tags drop out, here is what buyers are shopping for across those roles:
| Skill | Roles in the window |
|---|---|
| Cybersecurity | 59 |
| OKRs | 39 |
| Python | 23 |
| LLM | 22 |
| Ruby | 22 |
| JavaScript | 21 |
Skills moving fastest since yesterday: Cybersecurity (+3), OKRs (+3) and Ruby (+3). These are counts inside the crawl window, not a share of the whole market.
Titles stay behind; skills travel#
A buyout package covers the paycheck for a while. What it doesn't hand you is a way to explain your value to the next buyer. A senior title can mean three different jobs depending on the company. A named skill with an artifact means one thing, and it is the part you take with you.
What to do with the signal#
If you're weighing a paid exit, or just the "someday" version of one, pick the skill from today's list that you can already prove, publish one small artifact that shows it, and ask for introductions where that skill is already budgeted. If you hire, put a skill demo at the front of your pipeline instead of a title filter.
