Design Surfaces on the Board: Figma Takes Today's Public Lead
24 new roles in today's Job Index. Volume still leans Cybersecurity and Python, but after category cooldown the shippable headline is Figma (2 roles) - a design-frontend proof skill with Junior Designer and UI/UX samples.
Yesterday's board split volume from the public headline. Today keeps that habit - and the rotated lead lands on design, not another security or language tag.
Snapshot for 2026-08-03#
Local Job Index crawl: 24 new roles (~23% of 105 tracked). Publishable atomic skills in the public set: 25. Broad soft-skill tags (communication, leadership) still top the raw audit list; they stay out of the headline.
Board A - volume (loudest publishable tags)#
| Skill | Roles in today's window | Day-over-day | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cybersecurity | 9 | -3 vs yesterday | Loudest volume; security category still on cooldown for the public lead |
| Python | 5 | flat | Volume only; programming_language lane |
| OKRs | 4 | -2 | Volume only; business ops context |
| Consulting | 3 | -1 | Volume only |
| LLM | 3 | flat | Volume only |
| Machine Learning | 3 | flat | Volume only |
Security and code remain the dense tags in this window. That is the volume story - not today's shippable lead.
Board B - public lead (rotated headline)#
| Skill | Roles | Day-over-day | Sample titles in window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Figma | 2 | +2 vs yesterday | Junior Designer; Junior UI UX Designer |
Figma is today's public lead after the 7-day category cooldown (design_frontend). Loud volume skills still matter for hiring triage; they are not the blog/email headline while the cooldown is active. Figma also shows in the day-over-day movers list alongside CSS - a design-frontend cluster, not a one-off keyword spike.
What Figma as lead actually means#
When Figma owns the public lead, buyers are rarely shopping for "someone who opened the tool once." They want interface judgment you can show: frames, components, handoff notes, and a before/after of a flow that got simpler. Titles say Junior Designer or UI/UX; the unit of value is still a shipped surface.
If your last role said "marketer" or "ops" but you own a product UI kit and a measured conversion lift on a redesigned step, you are already in this market. If your title said "designer" and you cannot show a file or a decision trail, the market will treat you as unproven.
Operating move this week#
Hiring: keep security volume and design-frontend proof in separate lanes. One title filter collapses both and raises false negatives.
Job search / fractional: ship one narrow Figma artifact - a cleaned component set, a three-screen flow, or a UI critique with a redo - and attach it where people already buy that skill. One artifact is a fluke. A short chain is a signal.
Network: practice the walkthrough out loud before the high-stakes room. Proof without a clear ask still dies in the inbox.
