The Skills Market Today: LLM Is Today's Lead Skill (303 Roles)

Today's Job Index shows 303 new roles. Publishable lead is LLM (29). Cybersecurity still leads raw volume (46). Skills you can prove, not titles you can claim.

The old labor market bought titles and time. The one taking shape buys verified capability. Today's Job Index crawl landed 303 new roles, and once you set aside broad soft-skill tags (useful for audit, not for the public headline), the market is shopping for specific skills you can demonstrate.

What today's index shows#

The operating-system export for 2026-07-15 has 303 new roles in the refreshed window. Across that window, 48 publishable atomic skills appear in the public signal.

Raw audit lists still surface soft labels like communication. We do not publish those as demand proof.

Filter those out and the real demand comes into focus (counts in today's window):

LLM is today's lead publishable skill because we rotate lead categories so the same domain does not monopolize the subject line every day. Volume still matters: cybersecurity is loud in this crawl. The operating story is shared: buyers are pricing capability, not job titles.

About 5% of top-skill sample titles mention remote or distributed work in this window. Treat that as a weak location signal inside the crawl, not a market-wide remote percentage.

Why the skill list matters more than the titles#

The same capability keeps crossing very different job labels. A title can hide wildly different work. A skill signal travels across teams and seniority. That is why proof beats a static credential: hiring managers and clients are buying the thing you can demonstrate, not the label you last held.

Skills over titles - the operating move#

If you are hiring, stop filtering only by title overlap and start scoring by demonstrated skill. Your candidate pool widens and your false-positive rate drops.

If you are job searching or going fractional, pick one skill you can demonstrate this week. Publish the artifact. Attach it to a network where people already need that skill. Repeat for 90 days. One artifact is a fluke. A short chain of them is a signal.

If you are building this way, Rocket is where that proof turns into introductions, meetings, and repeat work - and Ember is there to help you practice the conversations that convert.
